Here, in these sneakers, my fondest Japanese papers are layered into abstract landscapes of vibrant colours and shapes, that when looked at closely, can reveal hidden treasures amongst the colours and details in the multiple cut shapes.

Last year I travelled to Japan for the first time. It was truly a long awaited trip after years of lusting over Japanese art and design and not to mention the food, it really was a dream come true!A journey to Kyoto, one of the oldest metropolises in Asia and Modern Tokyo was vividly inspiring. From the Shinto shrines all around the city and bamboo forests to the boutique stores and the tiniest restaurants and sake bars hidden amongst small streets where each turn in the road lead to a new discovery. One of my favourite and fortuitous finds was a ‘rabbit-warren’ of a paper shop in quiet neighbourhood in Kyoto selling traditional woodblock carving tools and countless types of washi paper and Karakami (woodblock printed paper). Like a kid in a candy store (or milk bar) I carefully selected my vices one by one, by one, and continued on my travels with paper in tow.
